A pathogen is a microorganism that causes a disease. There are four main types of pathogen:

Protists are a group of microorganisms that have features that belong to animals, plants and fungi. Some are like animals, others more like plants and some, called moulds are closest to fungi. They are all eukaryotic, which means they have a nucleus.

How to prevent the spread of diseases
The transmission of pathogens can be prevented or reduced in a number of ways. A number of important methods of doing this are shown in the table below.
