Watson and Raynor- little albert study - conditioned him to have fear/phobia of white rats, smacked iron bar (inane fear)

Explain the James Lange theory
'He is afraid because he runs away' - the stimulus leads to the perception of what it is, the response to the perception follows e.g. run - then the emotion is felt

Explain the Canon-Bard theory
Emotion either proceeds or happens simultaneously with the response - Stimulus leads to perception, then emotion OR emotion and response

Explain the cognitive labelling theory
Stimulus leads to perception, this leads to response, the response leads us to ask what the emotion should be, the context plays a factor in defining the emotion

What are the benefits of emotion?
adaptive e.g. signal for help/ avoid danger

What is a somantic marker?
A change in the body that defines an emotion - heart racing, nausea, sweat

What is the semantic marker hypothesis?
When the stimulus is seen, we perceive what it is, then have somantic markers, your brain uses the combination of the semantic markers to define the emotion (previously leant due to similar situations), then reacts with the behaviour accordingly
