What is the NICE guideline for antidepressant use on LI patients?
Do not use routinely because risk-benefit ratio is poor. Only consider for people with history of moderate/ severe depression, symptoms persistent for 2 years, symptoms persist after other interventions.

Discuss drug options with patient, covering adverse effects and perceptions of efficiency. Should normally use SSRIs.

What do SSRIs do?
Prevent the reuptake of serotonin in the synapse, resulting in increased serotonin transmission.

What is wrong with the serotonin hypothesis?
Little evidence of a strong correlation between serotonin levels and depressed mood, SSRIs are not superior to older medication that does not target serotonin.

What are the possible adverse consequences of SSRIs (4)?
Sleep disturbance, weight gain, sexual dysfunction, irregular cardiac function.

Helps clients identify and reevaluate distorted cognitions using behavioural and cognitive techniques to correct thinking errors. It is a structured approach focusing on relapse prevention.

Works by changing the content of negative thinking. The degree to which negative thinking is changed should predict the extent of symptom improvement for the client.
