To guide clinical decisions and care, deliver best possible care, be accountable for decision making, improve the quality of service, protect yourself from litigation/ negligence.

What are the 5 steps of EBM?
Formulate an answerable question ---> Track down the best evidence ---> Evaluate for validity, clinical relevance and applicability ---> Individualize, based on clinical expertise and patient concerns ---> Evaluate own performance.

What is clinical expertise?
Non-specific therapy factors that predict outcomes of therapy. It is NOT opinion/ unquestioned inhibition.

Why do we involve the patient in decision making?
So that they can give informed consent to the treatment being offered, or make their own decision of a preferable treatment.

In what circumstances do we not consider client preference.
If the client is unable to consent or there is marked risk.
