What is a skill?
A skill is a learnt ability to choose and perform the right techniques at the right time, succesfully, regularly and with the minimum amount of effort

Describe trial and error
Attempting a skill and failing continuously until you get it right. It is reinforcing movement. also called operant conditioning

Describe appropriate role models
Findng someone who can do the skill you want to do then watching them do it. Usually the role model will be top of their sporting activity

Describe practice/rehearsal
Practising repetitive drills and therefore the responses of the learner become conditioned- Rewards play a large part(positive reinforcement)

Describe Copying others
Watching another person perform the skill and then trying to do it yourself

What does the term feedback mean?
Telling someone else or yourself what you are doing well and what you need to improve on

When is feedback most effective?
Close to performance so its fresh in their mind

What does feedback do?
Motivates, changes performance and reinforces learning.

What are the 4 main types of feedback?
Intrinsic, extrinsic, knowledge of results, knowledge of performance

Describe and give an example of intrinsic feedback
You giving yourself feedback eg- telling yourself to have a more accurate pass because someone intercepted the ball

Describe and give an example of extrinsic feedback
Other people giving you feedback eg- A coach telling you you need to header the ball more

Describe knowledge of results
knowing what score you got and what place you came at a performance

How well you did whilst doing a sport

Describe intrinsic motivation
Internal drive or will power. Includes fun, enjoyment, satisfaction, intrinsic flow

Describe Extrinsic Motivation
It involves influences external to the performer. It includes, pleases others, trophies, medals and money

What is continuous feedback?
feedback during the performance, either from the coach, instructor or teacher or from the continuous feel of the skill

what is terminal feedback?
Feedback after the response has been completed

What is positive feedback?
Reinforces skill learning and gives information about a successful outcome

What is negative feedback?
Information about an unsuccessful outcome or getting things wrong.
