GCSE media terms - Camera shots

Establishing shot
Usually an airal shot which sets up where the location of the scene is. Tells you the LOCATION where the scene is set e.g. a large graveyard in the American west(or Big Ben telling you it's in London or the Eiffel Tower telling you it's in Paris).

Medium shot
when only half a subject (human or object) can be seen e.g a persons upper body from the torso to the top of their head.

long shot
This is a far away shot where you can see the whole of a subject

medium/long shot
This is a mix of the two shots before and its when a subject is only seen partly but you can also see the entirety of other people in the background

close up
When the camera is set up close

extreme close up
a shot taken uncomfortably close up like a finger or an eye

low angle shot
When a shot is taken from a low view (Can be used as a device to show power in a subject)

high angle shot
Taken from a hight point (can be used as a device to make a subject look weak)

Over the shoulder shot
when the camera is behind a person looking over there shoulder

POV shot
When a shot is taken from someones point of view being there eyes so we see what they see

Tracking
When the camera moves to follow the action (usually on a literal track of some sort)

Panning
Turing left or right to left (or up or down) on a fixed axist position)

Mis en scene
Everything in a scene (props, makeup, outfits etc)
