What does a balanced diet contain?
Carbohydrates, Fibre, Fats, Protein, Vitamins, Minerals and Water.

A source of energy for life processes.

Helps everything smoothly exit your body.

Fats are needed to make cell membranes and to insulate our bodies.

Used for growth and repair - building cells.

Vitamins and Mineral ions are needed for healthy functioning of the body.

What does the amount of energy someone needs to live depend on?
Males need to take in more energy than females - unless she is pregnant. If you are a teenager you need more energy than someone in their 70s. The more exercise you do the more energy you need.

What is the metabolic rate?
The rate at which the reactions of your body take place.

What is affects your metabolic rate?
Gender - men have higher metabolic rate because men have higher proportion of muscle to fat than women. Your metabolic rate is also affected by the amount of activity you do. Your metabolic rate can also be affected by inherited factors.
