Outline and Evaluate the Working Memory Model                   (12 Marks)

The working memory model was proposed by Baddeley and Hitch. This was an alternative to the multi-store model because they believed that short term memory was more complex, and an active store. It consists of three key features. The central executive, phonological loop, and visuo-spatial sketchpad. The central executive determins what information is attend to, It proccesses and and directs information to the two 'slave systems'. It is limited in capacity and only copes effectively with one 'strand' of information at a time. The phonological loop deals with sound or phonological information.
