• Involve a pre-set list of written questions to which the ppt responds
• Psychologists use them to assess thoughts and/or feelings
• May be used as part of an experiment to assess the dependent variable
• Open and Closed questions
  • There are a number of different possible styles of questions in a questionnaire but these can be broadly didvided into open and closed questions
  • An open question does not have a fixed range of answers, free to answer however they wish
  • Open questions produce qualitative data that is rich in depth/ detail but may be hard to analyse
  • A closed question offers a fixed number of responses
  • Produces quantitative data that is usually easy to analyse but may lack depth and detail
