➡education should be marketised with schools answerable and competing for demand and supply- =greater diversity, choice and efficiency, increasing the school’s ability to meet the needs of pupils, parents and employers
➡government generally shouldn’t interfere- it disregards local needs- but should still:
▪encourage school competition (ofsted inspections, league tables etc.) so parents can make informed choices between schools
▪ensure that schools affirm national identity and socialise pupils into a shared culture – e.g. the National Curriculum, learning Britain’s positive history, literature, daily Christian worship- and not that of other cultures
➡John Chubb and Terry Moe- the American State education system has failed, as disadvantaged groups (i.e. working class, ethnic and religious minority pupils) lack equal opportunity…
