new model army

the new model army was created by parliment in 1645 and were around 22,000 men, regiments were made on the spot for foreign invasion and then dispanded after the war ended, parliment believed that a professional army would be more sucessful against the kings army in the english civil war.
from 1573, the best of the militia was sent to periodic training under experienced soldiers which meant they will get better training, the bands were controlled by lord luitenants of counties and the pike became a compulsory weapon in 1596, however the new model army changed it and the commander in chief was General fairfax and cromwell …
