Background Information:
- 'Queen of the Welsh Resorts'
- Developed in the second half of the 19th century
- Built by the Mostyn family, who along with the town council regulate the developments on the promenade, maintaining its Victorian feel about it
- Lewis Carroll was a friend of the family of Alice Pleasance Liddell, for whom he wrote Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
- Has been said that Carroll's tale was inspired by Alice's own stories of her adventures on the Great Orme - prominent limestone headland that dominates Llandudno
Re-inventing 'Alice Town':
- Closure of Rabbit Hole Museum in 2009 - lost link to Alice in Wonderland
- 2012 - 160th anniversary of the birth of Alice Liddell -> Conwy County Council commissioned for 4 large wooden sculptures of characters from the book
- These larger-than-life structures were greeted with a mixed reception - 'a great asset to the town' 'garish' 'pointless'
Enhancing the experience:
- Guided walk around Llandudno to see the structures and other highlights known…
