·         Majority of 146

·         FPTP – advantage to Labour – Labour got 30,000 votes for every seat and Liberals got 187,000 for every seat – not just system though – many traditional Tory seats fell to Labour – southeast, midlands, a few rural

·         Labour better suited the public mood – zeitgeist – seen as better for post-war reconstruction
