POPULATION REGISTRATION ACT 1950:

• categorised/divided people into black, white, coloured and indian

• Created an hierarchy

• Worse conditions for non-whites

PROHIBITION OF MIXED MARRIAGES ACT 1949

• Different coloured people unable to marry legally

GROUP AREAS ACT 1950:

• Government could forcibly evict people

• 3.5 million africans evicted in 35 years

BANTU AUTHORITIES ACT 1951:

• Africans were not considered proper legal citizens

NATIVE LAWS AMENDMENT ACT 1952:

• Use of reference books

BANTU EDUCATION ACT 1953:

• New curriculum

• Only teach african children how to be labourers
