Levels of Processing Model of Memory – Craik and Lockhart (1972)
According to the model there are 3 ways of gathering information into our brain:
Shallow processing:
· Structural appearance – this is to do with how something looks or appears. E.g. is CAT in upper case letters?
· Phonetic processing – this is to do with how it sounds. E.g. does cat rhyme with bat?
Deep processing
· Semantic processing – encode the meaning of a word and relate it to another word.
