Levels of Processing Model of Memory – Craik and Lockhart (1972)

According to the model there are 3 ways of gathering information into our brain:

Shallow processing:

·         Structural appearance – this is to do with how something looks or appears. E.g. is CAT in upper case letters?

·         Phonetic processing – this is to do with how it sounds. E.g. does cat rhyme with bat?

Deep processing

·         Semantic processing – encode the meaning of a word and relate it to another word.

Evaluation of this model

+ It takes in the fact for the diversity of memories
