  • 1902 to 1905 - Balfour led Conservative government
  • 1905 - Liberals in office under Campbell-Bannerman
  • 1906 - Liberal landslide electoral victory
  • 1908 to 1911 - Asquith led Liberal Reform Programme
  • 1911 - Parliament Act
  • 1911 to 1914 - Period of acute domestic crisis
  • 1914 August - Britain declared war on Germany. Parties agreed to a political truce
