Radicals

Like Illich want to get rid of school completely.

Illich (1971) believes that education has 4 functions:

Illich agrees with functionalists about the functions of school, but think the fuctions are not good enough.

So we should give up school as a bad idea.

• Education looks after kids during the day.
• Education sorts pupils into job roles.
• Education passes on dominant values.
• Education helps people learn skills and knowledge.

Problem for Illich is that schools don't create equality or develop creativity. Illich wants to " Deschool society". He wants everyone to have access to education throughout their lives according to what they need.
