Unemployment:

- Average 1.9% (>2.8% in Barrow and Copeland)

- West Cumbria <8 jobs per person ( Engalnd 8.3 per person)

- Estimated 8000 job losses at Sellafield by 2020 (decomissioning)

Deindustrialisation:

- One of only 4 regions in EU which are in absolute decline

- Mainly small companies remain ( 83% employ <10 people)

Deindustrialised areas:

- Barrow, Cockermouth, Workington and Mayport

West cumbria:

- Districts of Allerdale, Copeland and Barrow

LDNP:

- In relation to affordable housing = Threkland, 'dead' villages = Mungriside, and tourist honeypots = Caldbeck

Poverty and low incomes:

- Many areas have median incomes <£21000

Poor skills and qualifiactions:

- Allerdale and Cumbria are above agerage for people with no qualifications ( 34 adn 31% compared to 27% in England)

Deprived neighbourhoods:

- Several areas in West Cumbria have high MDI scores 45-84

- 3 areas in Allerdale and 6 in Barrow are in the worst 10% MDI in England

- LNDP is remote, poor access to services, limited job availabiltiy and unaffordable hosuing (large areas <10% households able to afford a house)

Village development and services:

- Keswick and Cockermouth market towns initiatives

- Community centres and Nat West mobile bank in Threkland and Mungriside

- Nothern fells group ( 30 mile radius)

Income and Employment:

- Cumbria rural enterprise agency

-  Keswick buisness improvemnt scheme ( buisness start up assistance)

- Center parcs bus in 700 cleaners from West Cumbria

Skills and qualifications:

- Cumbria university, free trainig courses, broadband network (£2o million Allerdale)
