Causes: Indo-australian plate, subducted under the Eurasion plate, wave 30 m high

Effects

  • 230,000 killed
  • +1.7 million people lost homes
  • Infrastructure damaged
  • 5-6 million people needed aid
  • Economic damage, tourism, afraid to go 
  • Environmental damage- salt form seawater no pants, coral reefs, forests, sand dunes destroyed

short term

  • In days + £100 million given by forein governments and charities
  • Foreign countries - ships, planes, soldiers for rescue, food , water, clear up
  • Action aid- £13 million-immediatley sent food

Long term 

  • Billions spent on infrastructure
  • Programmes- re-build houses- people back to work
  • Warning system in Indian ocean
  • Managment plans- volunteers trained,to help control next tsunami
