Glycolosis

Glycolosis takes place in the cytoplasm in every living cell - the mitochondria, for example.

It involves the 6C molecule glucose being broken down into the 3C molecule pyruvic acid. A total of 4 ATP molecules are generated as a result of this.

This process does not require oxygen therefore can take place under aerovic or anarobic conditions.
