Geography - Urban Structure

MEDC Models:

Concentric Ring Model - Economic

The model was devisied by Burgess in 1924. It split the land use of the city into rings, starting from the centre. The idea was that urban areas grow equally in all directions.

Sector Model - Economic and Physical

In thie sector model, land use is arraned in wedges or sectors which radiate out from the city centre. It was devised by Hoyt in 1930. Its basis was that the land uses are determned by the land accessibility.

Multiple Nuclei Model - Political

Haris and Ullman devised this model in 1945. In this model the idea is that laund uses only occupy small areas of the city. These areas are determined by a number of factors, such as land values or accessibility.
