When? Key Dates (Part 1)

The unit "Delian League To Athenian Empire" of the Ancient Greek AS and A Level course covers the 5th Century BC (400s BC).

Some key dates you need to know include:

478BC - The date that the Delian League was formed at the island of Delos.

469BC - Naxos revolt.

465BC - Thasos revolt.

461BC - Cimon was ostracised.

460BC - Pericles came to power.

454BC - Treasury moved from Delos to Athens.

450/449BC - Peace of Callias formed (controversial).

447BC - Battle of Coronea.

431BC - Pelopponesian War broke out.

  • Peloponnese - Names after a man called Pelops.
  • Delos - Small island after which the Delian League is named and based.
  • Greece - Although they didn't see it as Greece, but rather as a collection of city states.
