The '70 Election
Poor economic record and weak industrial relations had lost the Labour
Party support among the moderate and swing voters = shock to Wilson
since he gad brought about some good trade figures
Many felt that, despite the controversy surrounding his, Powell and his
stance on immigration had won the election for the conservatives
Conservatives had a majority of 30 seats
Many working class voted Conservative for the first time on the back of
the fears Powell had put forward and the promise to protect jobs
All agree that it was a lacklustre election and that it dud bit capture the
imagination of the public
Wilson campaigned as a safe pair of hands a long way from the radical
campaigner of technology of the 1964
Whitelaw( Tory) accused Wilson of travelling around the country stirring up
