Heath was elected by party MPs in '65 who beat Powell
He was from a grammar school and similar background to Wilson
He had come to prominence by leading the negotiations to gain UK entry
intro the EEC under Macmillan
Seemed ill at ease in public and was not a great speaker in the House of
Sympathetic to unions and a believer in the consensus
Heath moved slightly more towards the free market path whilst Powell
began to move towards the right economically
