scene 3. He claims to regret being the one to convey the news as Gloucester
is his father. Edmund is declared the Earl of Gloucester by Cornwall.
Edmund again claims to be acting through loyalty to the state although torn
by family ties.
Edmund is reporting to Cornwall about how Gloucester intends to help Lear
and about the war with Albany. Edmund is determined to get revenge on his
father and to take as much power as possible as he continues in his plotting.
