Here is my glossary of definitions for module 1 - Atoms and reactions of unit F321 of the OCR Chemistry A course (As).

Atoms and reactions
- All "Key definitions" taken from the Heinemann/OCR Chemistry As textbook
- Green = commonly asked definitions that I've noticed in PPs (I've looked through all
available from OCR and http://pastpapers.org/
(Do not ignore the others though because they are on the specification!)
- Each section is colour coded e.g Atomic structure = red
- There are some extra notes below certain definitions from my teacher and class
notes.
Atomic structure definitions ­ 1.1.1
Ion ­ "A positively or negatively charged atom or (covalently bonded) group of
atoms (a molecular ion)."
Isotopes ­ "Atoms of the same element with different numbers of neutrons."
Atomic number ­ "The number of protons in the nucleus of an atom."
Mass (nucleon) number ­ "The number of particles (protons and neutrons) in
the nucleus."
Relative masses definitions - 1.1.1.2
Relative Isotopic mass (RIM) ­"The mass of an atom of an isotope compared
with 1/12 of the mass of an atom of carbon 12."
*Relative atomic mass (RAM) ­ (Ar)-"The weighted mean mass of an atom of
an element compared with 1/12 of the mass of an atom of carbon 12."
- Remember: The C12/12C isotope is the standard measurement of relative masses.
This has been asked before.
*Relative molecular mass ­ (RMM) ­ (Mr) ­ "The weighted mean mass of a
molecule compared with 1/12 of the mass of an atom of carbon-12."
*Relative formula mass ­ (RFM) ­ "The weighted mean mass of a formula unit
compared with 1/12 of the mass of an atom of carbon ­ 12."

definitions equation (it breaks them up) if you want.
X = "The weighted mean mass of..."
Y = "an atom of an element/a molecule/a formula unit" (depending on the
definition asked).
Z = "...compared with 1/12 of the mass of an atom of carbon-12."
Therefore the equation is... (With D being the complete definition).
D=X+Y+Z

Molar gas volume ­ (Vm) ­ "Is the volume per mole of a gas. The units of molar
volume are dm3 mol-1. At room temperature and pressure (RTP), the molar
volume is approx. 24.0 dm3 mol-1."
- Note: (Vm) itself (@ RTP) is given to you on the data sheet. But learn the definition anyway.
Concentration ­ "The amount of solute, in mol dissolved per 1 dm3 (1000cm3)

Amphoteric ­ "A substance that can act as an acid or a base, e.g Amino acids."
­ My teacher gave me this definition. It's not on the spec but it may come in handy if OCR
use this word in a future exam, you never know!
Hydrated ­ "Refers to the crystalline compound containing water molecules."
