Explanations into the attraction of celebrities- Mere exposure effect
Description
This theory states that the more you see a celebrity the more likely you are to
admire them and find them attractive.
Evidence supporting the theory
Zajonc did a study and he found that the more participants saw Chinese symbols
the more likely they were to associate them with positive emotions or were said to
mean positive emotions. He also did this with yearbook photos and nonsense
trigrams.
Another study involved tones of 2 different frequencies being played to different
groups of chicks while they were still unhatched. Once hatched each tone was
played to both groups of chicks. They preferred the tone they heard when they
were still eggs. This led to subliminal exposure and it had the same effect as the
original study by Zajonc.
