1. Challenges to the Romanovs, 1881-1905
· 1881 - Alexander III becomes Tsar
· 1889 - Land Captains were created
· 1891 - Major famine in Russia
· 1894 - Nicholas II becomes Tsar
· 1898 - The Social Democratic Party were formed
· 1901 - Social Revolutionary Party was formed
· 1904 - Russo-Japanese War began
· Jan 1905 - Bloody Sunday; the 1905 Revolution began
· Oct 1905 - The Tsar agreed to the October Manifesto
2. The Downfall of the Romanovs, 1906-1917
· 1906 - The Fundamental Law was issued. The First Duma began
· Feb 1907 - The Second Duma began. Ended in June
· Nov 1907 - The Third Duma began. It lasted until 1912
· 1907 - Redemption Payments were abolished
· 1911 - Stolypin was assassinated
· 1912 - The Fourth Duma began
· 1914 - The First World War began
· 1915 - Zemgor formed. Nicholas II also appointed supreme commander
of armed forces
· March 1917 - The Tsar abdicates
3. The Bolshevik Triumph of 1917
· 3rd March - The First Provisional began
· 3rd April - Lenin returned to Petrograd from exile
· June - The June Offensive
· July - The July Days
· 8th July - The Second Provisional Government began
