Enthalpy Cycles
For some reactions it is impossible to measure the enthalpy change for a variety of reasons, for
example if the reaction needs to be conducted at extreme temperature or pressure.
Using an intermediate stage, it is possible to measure the enthalpy of the reactions. Below is an
enthalpy/energy/thermochemical/Hess cycle
Hess' law ­ The enthalpy change for any chemical reactions is independent of the intermediate
stages. So long as the initial and final conditions are the same for each route
