Overall, I think the strengths of using field experiments outweigh the disadvantages. I think this because even though there is a reduced control over extraneous variables, the high ecological validity reduces the risk of demand characteristics and therefore the risk of extraneous variables occurring in the first place. Also, it can uncover any causal relationships.
