Evaluate headhunting advertising as a method of external recruitment.

Advantages

  • finding right person - trained ability to lure someone who already has a position = reduce time + expense in investing in training employee
  • fast turnaround - hiring employees + having them start is very quick e.g 2-3 weeks
  • candidate guarantee - guarantee period of 90 or 120 days = if candidate does not work out for reasons other than company wide layoff, then headhunter will refund agency fee

Disadvantages

  • high cost - recruiters charge percentage of candidates first years annual salary + bonus as their fee (25-35%) = far exceeds costs of business getting candidates on their own
  • may be lack of loyalty from individual - left previous company for money they may do it again
  • conflict of interest - some headhunters work for several employers = company may miss out on best candidate

Evaluation

Involves firm approaching individual who is currently employed by another firm + offering them a position in their own organisation  - someone w/ proven track record, although they will need to offer a considerable remuneration package.
