- This meant his lands were given to the English crown - lands in ulster given to people such as Sir Henry Bagenal

- Tyrone in a feud with the head of the O'Neill clan over his right to be the next cheifian
- Therefore he accepted the English title to gain English support
- Married Sir Henry Baganel's sister to neutralise English threat - Henry disproved & they eloped
