      • Hugh Roe MacMahon executed in 1590 - chief of the Mahon clan
      • This meant his lands were given to the English crown - lands in ulster given to people such as Sir Henry Bagenal
    • Threat to Tyrone
      • Tyrone in a feud with the head of the O'Neill clan over his right to be the next cheifian
      • Therefore he accepted the English title to gain English support
      • Married Sir Henry Baganel's sister to neutralise English threat - Henry disproved & they eloped
