  • The March Revolution
    • 4th March 1917- workers went on strike in Petrograd demanding for higher wages
      • after 3 days there were 40,000 workers on strike
      • clashes between workers + army, some strikers were killed
    • Winter in 1916-17 was harsh
      • food didn't reach towns - snow and ice on railways
      • people died of starvation
    • 8th March- thousands of women went onto street demanding for bread
    • 12th March in Petrograd
      • Soldiers refused to fire at strikers and joined them instead
      • Duma agreed to set up Provisional government (temporary)
    • On 15th March- Tsar was forced to abdicate. He and his family were arrested and taken to a Siberian prison camp
