  • Religion and Early Life
    • When does life begin?
      • When the heart starts (4 weeks into pregnancy)
    • Key words
      • Abortion- Is the removal of a foetus from a womb to end a pregnancy. It is only allowed if two doctors agree with it and they are only allowed up until 24 weeks into the pregnancy
      • Sanctity of life- this is the idea that all life is precious. Christians and Muslims' believe that it was a gift from god so nobody should take it
      • Quality of life- this refers to the kind of life the baby will have
        • Reasons why the child's life will be poor:
          • Baby may be unloved and unwanted therefore it might lead a difficult life to grow up with
          • Baby is born with a severe disability and may live a life full of pain
          • Family may not be able to afford a child, poverty can cause it to have a poor quality of life
      • Adoption- a legal process where a child is taken in by a family and it is  brought up as one of their own
      • Fostering- a child is temporarily taken cared for by a family until its' mother is able to care for it.
    • Abortion
      • Great risk the baby might be born with a severe disability
      • There is a risk to the mental/physical health of the mother's other child
      • Pro-life
        • many religious people see life at conception and having an abortion is murder
        • Disabled people still have a right to choose. Who says they can't have a worthwhile life?
        • Unwanted adoption can be adopted
        • Every foetus has the potential to be a human being
        • Abortion is used as contraception, people use it selfishly to avoid their responsibilites
        • Children- born or unborn- still have human rights and they are to be protected, according to the United Nations
      • Pro-choice
        • a woman has the right to choose its' her body
        • the foetus is a collection of cells in a body until it can survive outside of it
        • Mother's rights outweigh the foetus's
        • If abortion became illegal people would use dangerous backstreet ones
        • It's cruel to bring a severely ill baby into the world
        • There are lots of unwanted children- we don't need more
        • Adoption is very hard on a mother
        • In some circumstances abortion is the best option
    • Religion
      • Buddhism
        • Abortion seems to go against the teaching of 'COMPASSION AND NOT HARMING LIVING THINGS'.
        • However abortion might be the most compassionate thing to do.
        • Being born is a great opportunity to reach  Nibbana and abortion wastes this rare opportunity
  • When does life begin?
    • When the heart starts (4 weeks into pregnancy)
  • At conception-when egg and sperm unite the DNA is made and fixed which is enough to make a person
