- Emblems
- They are non verbal behaviours which directly suggests specific words without vocal accompaniment. They're short cut communication. E.g. Thumbing a lift.
- Illustrators
- Affect Displays
- Are movements of the face and body which hold emotional MEANING. Whole body language constitutes.
- Regulators
- Are non verbal actions which moniter and control the communication of another individual. These are a form of encouragement or a form of discourage.
- Adaptors
- These are habitual behaviours, to make people feel at ease. These are more private than public.
- Emblems
- They accompany and reinforce verbal messages. E.g. Nod of the head
- Illustrators
