  • hyperinflation
    • Reparations
      • by 1921 Germany was struggling to pay the reparations structured in ToV, so the gov decided to print more money despite the lack of a concurrent goods rise
        • which created hyperinflation- i.e (fake example) €10 is now worth the previous €1
      • Repayments were set in gold marks but paper marks began to loose their value
      • gov would had to raise taxes to avoid economic collapse but did not want to in case of a bolshevik revolution
      • foreign goods became more expensive
    • French occupied Ruhr
      • By september inflation failed to be solved, leading Germany to not pay their reparations
      • because of the lack of money, france and belgium sent 60,000 troops to occupy the Ruhr in January 1923
        • wanted to seize coal in order to pay the money that wasn’t given
      • Occultation of Ruhr unified German political parties and classes together
        • german army couldn’t stop the french due to ToV
      • Germany refused to pay anymore reparations unless france left and held strikes on coal miners
        • But this meant that the economy fell further, nothing was being made due to the lack of coal
        • the french also injured 140 Germans
