- Water Stress
- Areas MOST likely to suffer from Water Stress
- Mainly in South East/ east of the UK
- The Central Areas such as Birmingham
- Urban Areas/ Large Cities such as London/ Birmingham/ Manchester
- Areas of the Lowest Rainfall
- Ways that the problem of Water Stress in the UK can be solved?
- One method is water transfers
- This is where water is transferred in pipes or channels between areas or surplus/ high rainfall to areas where there is shortage
- An example would be piping water from Wales to London/ South East
- A second strategy would be to introduce limits on water usage
- Particularly during the summer months when rainfall is low, hose pipe bans are often introduced (in the south east) to conserver water
- A third strategy is to reduce the demand for water/ amount of people use.
- This could be done by installing new water meters in homes that monitor water usage
- In addition, appliances, such as dishwashers and washing machines, can be replaced with new, more efficient ones that use less water, helping to conserve supplies
