- -Not water soluble.
- -Require being chemically altered before digestion e.g. rice.
- -Is a POLYSAC-CARIDE.
- -Many molecules of glucose linked together.
- Examples: -Bread. -Rice. -Pasta. -Cereal.
- Non- Starch Polysaccarides (NSP's).
- -Substances such as fibre.
- -Some are insoluble + connot be broken down by digestion.
- -Pass through the body unchanged e.g. sweetcorn.
- -Main one is cellulose.
- -Gives plants structural strength.
- Examples: -Bran Products. -Peas. -Beans. -Wholemeal Bread.

- -Soluble in water.
- -Known as saccharides.
- -Simple Sugar = monosaccharide.

- Examples: -Grapes. -Cakes. -Jam. -Chocolate. -Honey. -Apricots.
- REMEMBER: -Sucrose = glucose + fructose. -Lactose = glucose + galactose. -Maltose = 2 glucose molecules.

- -Complex carbs reduce cholesterol.
- -Made up of Carbon, Hydrogen + Oxygen.
