  • Basic info for protein synthesis
    • 1.) DNA controls the production of proteins (protein synthesis) in a cell
      • Many regions of DNA non-coding so they don't code for amino acids but some still used in protein synthesis
        • All of organisms DNA (including non-coding regions) make up it's genome
    • 3.) Amino acid chains fold up to give each protein different specific shape so each protein has a different function    (why enzymes (proteins) have active sites with a specific shape and only catalyse specific reactions)
    • 5.) Each amino acid is coded for by a sequence of 3 bases in the gene called a base triplet
      • 3 bases on DNA called triplet
      • 3 bases on mRNA called codone
      • 3 bases on tRNA called anti-codone
    • 6.) Amino acids joined together to make proteins following order of bases in gene
    • 7.) Each gene contains different sequence of bases which allows it to code for a particular protein
    • 2.) Proteins made up of chains of molecules called amino acids, each different protein has it's own number & order of amino acids
    • 4.) Order of bases in a gene decides order of amino acids in a protein
      • Section of DNA that codes for 1 specific protein is a gene
    • 2 stages
      • 2.) Translation
      • 1.) Transcription
  • 4.) Order of bases in a gene decides order of amino acids in a protein
    • Section of DNA that codes for 1 specific protein is a gene
