1801. LW visits HC at WH's who is leasing him TG. He describes HC and the sitting room of WH. Brief altercation with the dogs before returning to TG.

Chapter 2
LW returns to WH the next day. Encounters the rest of HC's family - Cathy and Hareton. Weather turns bad and after being injured by the dogs, LW is forced remain at WH overnight.

LW is shown to room to sleep - used to be Catherine's. Has restless night and apparently woken by tree branch tapping window. As he reaches to stop it his wrist grabbed by cold hand - ghost of Catherine. Wakes HC who escorts him to TG.

TG - Nelly begins to LW of the story of HC. She explains how he was brought to WH as a child and spread discord among the Earnshaw family.

Chapter 6
Hindley returns to WH with a new wife. Catherine and HC grow more rebellious and wild. They sneak into TG and Catherine is injured by their dogs.

Chapter 7
Catherine returns to WH having been taught to look and act like a lady at TG. She acts aloof from HC who briefly tries to smarten himself up to impress her but fails. throwing apple sauce over Edgar in the process.

Chapter 9
In drunken state, Hindley returns and drops Hareton from the landing; saved by HC. Catherine talks to Nelly who says that she accepted an offer of marriage(Edgar). Couldn't marry HC because he is too poor - her heart belongs to him

HC only hears first part of the conversation not the second and runs away from WH. Catherine goes on to marry Edgar.

3 years after HC left, six months after marriage, HC arrives at TG, improved physique and manner. Staying with Hindley at WH. Isabella falls in love with HC and teased by Catherine.

Nelly walks to WH to see Hindley but meets Hareton at the gate. Become coarse and foul-mouthed. HC goes to TG to see Catherine,Isabella and clashes with Edgar.

Catherine falls ill from fever and delirium and Nelly gets in trouble for not telling Edgar. With minds occupied, unaware that Isabella has eloped with HC.
