Structurally very sophisticated

Advantages

  • Time span is clearly stated
  • The family generations forma  core for the main structure of the novel.
  • Narrative structure; Lockwood's narration happened after the events have already happened. Story is being told in a flashback style.
  • The story is not merely Nelly's narration but Lockwood's interpretation of the recount Nelly is telling him. We are hearing the whole tale through Lockwood's diary and therefore he may be biased towards certain characters and how they are presented.

Disadvantages

  • It is sophisticated however also extremely confusing in relation as to where in time some of the events are taking place, nevertheless the reader is still made aware of the timespan of Wuthering and the period as to which the novel takes place over.

Evaluation

I agree with the statement that Wuthering Height's is structurally sophisticated as the reader is made aware of the time span of the novel without being pestered by dates constantly and the reader is consciously aware of the generations of families which inhabitant the two houses.
