An organised store of knowledge about previous experiences which help us to make decisions about future events. They also help us to fill in any gaps in our knowledge based on past information.

Stereotypes
A way of defining a person (or people) using readily available features (e.g. skin colour or gender) in ways that focus on these rather than the individual.

Encoding
The information is changed (or encoded) so that it can be stored.

Storage
Information is stored and is avaiable for use at some time in the future. We store different types of information in different ways, and the way we store information affects how we retrieve it.

Retreival
This occurs when we try to recover information from storage. If we can't remember something, it may be because we are unable to retrieve it.
