Fine motor skills involves smaller movements that can only use small muscles (fingers or hands), for example writing, holding a spoon and fork and turning pages in a book. Gross motor skills involves larger movements that can use larger muscles (arms, leg

What does milestones mean?
Milestones is an ability achieved by most children
by a certain age. It can involve physical, social, emotional, intellectual and communication skills, for example walking, expressing emotions, recognising familiar sounds and talking.

Examples of fine motor skills through infancy
Newborn - holds their thumbs and sucked into their mouths
3 months - holds small object in hands
5 months - holds toys for a short period of time
6 months - moves objects from hand to hand
9-10 months - uses finger and thumb to hold a small object

Newborn - requires support to lift head and chest while on stomach
12 weeks - kicks legs
6-9 months - can now sit without assistance, roll over and crawl.
9-12 months - cruising, walking and can climb up the stairs with support
