What is transmigration?
When people migrate from one place to another in order to settle there

To move mills of Indonesians from over populated places such as Java to sparsely populated places like Sumatra

Why is this necessary?
It will alleviate poverty, reduce population pressure in Java, effective exploitation of outer islands

What do people receive?
Housing, a farming plot, basic infrastructure, an allowance for 18 months

What are the disadvantages?
Required huge donations from the World Bank and Bi-lateral aid, deforestation of the rainforest (outer islands contain 10% of the worlds rainforest), rights of local tribes ignored, forces assimilation of indigenous tribes

Disadvantages continued
Soil fertility declined due to clearance, poverty was worsened due to poor and unplanned conditions, little effect on population pressure in Java
