peasants received less land then they used to work and it was overvalued so they had high priced redemption payments, the nobles were able to keep the best land for themselves and the mir was strengthened

they felt they had been cheated, there ended up being over 1000 disturbances in 1861. there were some peasants that did well and were known as kulaks.

the nobles did not feel compensated for there losses and there government bonds just went to pay off debts
