Urbanisation
Is the rise in the percentage of people living in urban areas in comparison with rural areas.

The movement of people from the countryside to the cities, normally to escape from poverty and search for work.

A city with a population of 10 million people or more.

Counter - urbanisation
When people leave towns and cities to live in the countryside.

Informal Economy
Refers to jobs that have little or no job security. No tax is paid.

Formal Economy
Refers to jobs with contracts of employment and more job security. Tax is paid.

Eco - footprint
The area of land and sea that supplies all the resources etc we need to survive.

Self - help schemes
Government provides materials and land for the residents. These residents are also needed and used for labour.
