Anglo-Scottish war meant the castle had further defensive improvements. It held Scottish prisoners and was the only castle in Northumberland to not be taken by the Scottish. Castle was given to the Percy family.

Significant modernisation. Became more administrative for collecting fees and as a manorial court.

Percy family turn the castle into an aristocratic residence.

Henry VIII goes to war with France and focuses his defences on the coast which declines Prudhoe’s defensive role. Percy’s lose castle by rebelling against the crown but it is eventually given back to them.

Percy’s move their administrative base to Alnwick. James IV of Scotland becomes king and a period of peace begins. Castle rented out to various farmers.

Castle is now ruinous and wealthy families now see castles as romantic settings.

Ruinous buildings cleared by Hugh Percy and a residence for William Laws is built and rented to him.

Fallen into disrepair but is cleared of overgrowth and repaired by 1912.
