?
Lever
A bone - e.g upward phase of bicep curl the radius is the lever
1 of 14
Fulcrum
a joint - e.g in the upward phase of a bicep curl the elbow joint is the fulcrum
2 of 14
effort
muscular force - e.g in the upward phase of a bicep curl the muscular force pulls the radius upwards at the elbow joint.
3 of 14
load
weight of a body part or object - e.g in the upward phase of a bicep curl the weights lifted is the load.
4 of 14
First class Lever (EFL)
Efort, fulcrum and load are below the line. Example: extesnion of the neck when a footballer prepares to head the football.
5 of 14
Second class lever (ELF)
Effort on top of the line , load and fuclrum on the bottom. Example - Flexion of ankle as a basketballer uses the ball of the foot to take off for a jump shot.
6 of 14
Third class lever (FEL)
Fulcrum on bottom, effort on top, load on bottom. Example - flexion of elbow during the upward phase of a bicep curl. or the extension of the knee as footballer executes a pass.
7 of 14
Mechanical advantage
the ability of a lever system to move a large load with a small effort.
8 of 14
Sagital plane
A plane that vertically splits the body into left and right parts . (flexion and extension movements) e.g. shoulder hip andf knee flexion while running
9 of 14
Frontal plane
A plane of movement that vertically splits the bpdy into front and back parts ( Abduction and adduction movements) e.g. shoulder and hip abduction in the outward phase of a star jump
10 of 14
Tranverse plane
A plane of movement that horizontally splits the body into top and bottom ( rotation movement) e.g. Shoulder rotation as a tennis player puts a spin on the ball.
11 of 14
Longitudinal axis
A verticla axis that runs from top to bottom of the body. Example - An ice skater performing a flat spin.
12 of 14
Frontal axis
A horizontal axis running from front to back of the body. example - a gymnast performing a cartwheel.
13 of 14
Tranverse axis
A horizontal axis running from side to side horizontally. Example - A high board diver performing a somersault.
