Glycogen Depletion
Stores are limited. Body has enough to last approx. 90 mins. Athletes 'hit the wall' and are unable to use fat as a fuel on its own.

Lactic Acid build up
Releases hydrogen ions. Cause acidity increase in blood plasma. Inhibits enzyme action and causes pain.

Reduced rate of ATP synthesis
Stores of ATP and PC are depleted. Insufficient ATP to sustain muscular contractions.

Effects blood flow to working muscles. Loss of electrolytes (calcium) which help muscular contractions. Blood viscosity + blood pressure -. Sweat less -> body temperature +.
