What happens when force is applied to an object of a pivot?
It will turn about the pivot. The turning effect is called a moment.

How can you find the centre of mass of an object?
Suspend the object from a random point and let it settle. Draw a plum line straight down from point of suspension towards ground. Hang from different point and repeat. CofM= point where two lines cross.

In terms of centre of mass what makes an object stable?
The centre of mass is low or the base is wide. The weight will act inside the base. There will be no moment of force and the object doesn't topple.

The centre of mass is high or the base is narrow. The weight will act outside the base. There will be a moment of force and the object will topple over.
